| In keeping with its principles of “Education Serves Society” and “Spread Knowledge, and Eliminate Poverty”, Tsinghua University implemented its first Education-Aiding-the-Poor Program in 2003. The program provides education and training resources free of charge to impoverished rural counties through Tsinghua University Education-Aiding-Poor-the-Distance-Training Stations equipped with modern information technology and satellite communication capability. By February 2011 , the SCE had established 981 teaching stations in 27 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, provided training programs to primary and middle school teachers, county-level officials and vocational trainings for local farmers. The Program has given training to more than 1£¬000,000 person/times participants in the past 7 years and over 2000 study hours of various types of distance and face-to-face training courses annually. More than 800 teachers and students on summer vacations conduct English teaching, computer teaching, study experience exchanges, and social activities through those stations. The Education-Aiding-the-Poor Program has aroused a great deal of attention and support from society. It provides line ministries with a platform for training cadres in remote locations.
To teach students how to learn is better than just to teach them knowledge. Education promotes individual growth, information broadens vision, and knowledge determines one's future. |
